If you're based in DK, why advertise for a native English copywriter?
Are you only dealing with clients outside the borders of DK?
Or is it your belief that UK/US copywriters are better at making copy/concepts?
Pardon, if I come across aggressive - but I think you'd do just as well with a Danish copywriter.
By the way, give my regards to Martin Lindegaard, a former Tribal-colleague of mine.
Good luck with your search for new talent ...

Silas, thanks for the comment.
I need a native speaker because a substantial part of our work is done for international clients and as such born in English. During the last month we've delivered copy in Arabic, German, Hebrew, Danish, French, Swedish and English.
Soon I'll be advertising for a Danish copy writer as well. If you're one - perhaps we should talk!
Jakob.

The difference between good copy concepts and outstanding copy concepts are often the use of cultural nuances and idiosyncrasies, and an implicit play on words and their meaning.
Danes having outstanding verbal English skills and often a superior grasp of English grammar (many could teach me a thing or two). However, they very rarely have the ability to execute sparkling advertising copy concepts in English as well as English professionals. By the same token, I do not believe I would ever be as adept at producing Danish copy concepts as a native, regardless of how well I try to master the technicalities of the Danish language.
There is a tendency for Danish businesses to promote themselves as ‘international’, but it is often lip service. Having an international client does not make you international. Creating a pool of international talent who can collectively go above and beyond the ordinary with international briefs, is. So, I for one am happy that Hello makes this distinction.
During my five years in Denmark I have experienced Danes being selected for English briefs over me. Such decisions were rarely based on ability to fulfil the brief as much as Danes also being able to 'fill in' any other Danish language business along the way. In addition, Danes proofread the majority of English copy I currently produce, and I have to confess that the nerve and personality of my copy is often edited out and grave mistakes are often made in terms of meaning.
For Copenhagen to truly maximise its full international potential relies on individual businesses proactively recruiting a melting pot of talent and signalling that Denmark is no longer just Danish. It has the potential to excel in the same way as London, New York, Paris etc. The ‘global village’ concept is a reality and it is refreshing to come across Danish companies that REALLY do want to play a part in it by embracing international talent and redressing rather xenophobic recruitment trends that hide behind a smoke screen of ‘Danes can do it equally as well’. On this front, they simply can’t I’m afraid.
For any Dane reading this, it is not open to proofreading or editing ;-)
Kind regards

I'm a US-born, English-speaking copywriter. I discovered, when offered a stint at Ogilvy & Mather in London, that there are crucial differences in English even as spoken by native English speakers. Conceptually, there are even greater differences. The crossover from Danish would add an additional level of difficulty in dealing with the nuances that make for great copy as opposed to very good copy. It's not that it can't be done, but gambling on success isn't advised.
Conversely, I can read Danish, some, but would never pretend to be able to work in the Danish language or write for the culture unless I had lived in DK for decades and dreamed fluently in Danish. Seriously.
There are an estimated 995,117 words in the English language. Adopted by artisans in centuries past for its vast vocabulary and labyrinthine networks of meaning, Modern English has absorbed many new words, phrases and histories of meaning. A limitless lyrical database it is not, but to entwine words and meaning is an endlessly gratifying pursuit.
Danish is a language that lacks a word comparable to ‘please’. There are just two other widely used phrases; “for fanden” and “for satan” which can be used interchangeably. They both derive from runic inscriptions in the back office of Jysk in Odense. Descended from the Novo-Nordisk Vikings of Jem og Fix (as written about by Saxo ‘Bancus’ Grammaticus) these runes predate even the Ekstra-Bladet futhark.
Limited vocabularies aside, the historical influence of Danish on English is not in dispute, (particularly in the North and East of Britain) in the droll “taa” (from ‘tak’) as an informal expression of gratitude or thanks. Other linguistic gifts such as the “-by” placename suffix, are evident in such delightfully named towns as ‘Grimsby’ (which rather aptly translates to ‘Ugly Town’).
My point is this, though we share similar cultural values our languages and norms of verbal expression are very different. I can read most of a Danish newspaper now but it will be a great many years before I can do anything more in Danish than drop in a few tenuous ‘cultural’ references in a desperate attempt to sound witty and relevant.
Marketing copy, particularly in a networked world of social communication must be carefully gauged. The days of pithy headlines are dying. In a world where brands must engage in discourse and trust that consumers control their reputations online, a native understanding of linguistic nuance will be more vital than ever when collaborating on innovative projects.
A multilingual think-tank grown around collaborative streams of innovation will truly be an agile and potent commercial entity
