The World is your Oyster

Look, the world is your oyster if you get your head straight.

I just heard - and was inspired by - a few pearls of wisdom from Mr Kamprad - they go something like this:

Always be en route - satisfaction is quicksand
Mistrust people who say they can do everything
Break away from past experiences - they'll keep you from doing things differently
Your place of work is out there in reality
Work positively - negativity gives you an ulcer.
Recognize your failures – don’t try to explain them
Discuss, motivate and sell. But once the decision has been made only following-thru counts
See problems as opportunities
Look after your most valuable resource – your employees and make sure y’all have fun
Finally think: The future needs you!

Located in Antwerp, Belgium, The Engine Room is a combination of a five star hotel for cars, and a members club for their owners. Members of the Engine Room store their darlings in a modern, heated and well-secured warehouse with climate control optimized for preventing corrosion. Cars can be picked up 24/7, and upon being returned, are hand cleaned inside and out, and have their tire pressure and battery levels checked. Costs per month start at EUR 250 per vehicle.

This is beautiful - and it gets you thinking. Check it out here.

Too many new opportunities - too litle time

When visiting Berlin in December I came up with a new business idea. I am still quite convinced that it would work. Especially now after having discovered new socalled branded spaces poping up. Check out Paragraph and the Village Quill in NY, Manboo in Japan

Since then, I've started to think about something else. If the natural extention of the flagship store in modern retailing is the phenonomon called pop-up retailing - read more here - then there must be a business in facilitating popup retailing for big brands wanting to try it out. Imagine buying a major retail store in the city and changing the assortment, the category, the interior, the staff - everything - every month!! How cool would that be?
