if you can't spot the sucker ..

… you’re the sucker! Or so the saying goes in poker circles. But with PokerOffice.com (who we had the pleasure of meeting last week) you’re chance of being the sucker has dropped. A lot!

This baby gives you advice whilst playing online and is certainly one of the most sophisticated tools I’ve seen on the market when it comes to Hold’em poker. You can track the other players’ every move at the table as well as your own performance with the cards. Automatically – not typing nonsense. So to keep you from discovering you’re the sucker you now have statistics, spreadsheets, graphs – all mapping out what’s going on around the table. And to top that off you also get their”Live Advisor Window”, where you (during actual play) get solid advice on how your opponents are playing. … probabilities, pot odds – everything you need to get ahead.

I loved it!

A candid comment

Here's some of the first response I got on The Jockey Club:

... based on initial reading of 'The Jockey Club (Conception)' it is very difficult not to take offence at the complete want of substance and assault on intelligence the document pose to its readership. For all the narcissistic ink spilled in the attempt to justify its own name there was not a single line that suggested a trustworthy value generating partner.

.... gotta love the no nonsense type...

The birth of a new club
THE JOCKEY CLUB is a creative agency specializing in branded advertising, design and digital solutions for projects around the world from a single location.
Our start-up mentality is decidedly new world, aligning the talents of venture capitalists, creatives and strategists towards a common dream: To turn rule-breaking effort into heroic ideas and then set them loose in the most engaging way possible.

What makes us different?
Being hatched from the fires of a VC firm is something few agencies can boast of. Most people think of these places as cauldrons of entrepreneurial energy, full of insider knowledge and continually ready to tread out towards the edge of what’s next.
The companies and people we incubate are among the most visionary in their fields including a few, like Skype, that are changing the world. We bring that insight and courage into every project we engage in. Having such noble stock in our DNA gives THE JOCKEY CLUB a mental advantage in the market place and an intriguing platform from which to build our story. The central idea of THE JOCKEY CLUB is to fuse all that new world business innovation and start-up philosophy into a new type of agency that seamlessly translates focused business energy into powerful, soul inspiring, branded communication.

What’s in a name?
Not much really. Look at Crispin Porter Bogusky on the one hand and a shop like Strawberry Frog on the other, both successful in their own right but one an amalgamation of names and the other a poisonous rainforest amphibian.
If you knew a champion hurdler named Fred, would you think any less of his athletic prowess if he were named Tristan Buckminster IV? Well yes... You see, actually names can be very important. Especially In their ability to trigger a web of associations in the mind. For us, it’s about making sure from the get go that the mental movie we project is the right one. Are we safe like PG13? Do we value convention? Or do we want future clients to come here because they are searching for something no one else can provide? Disrupting the norm is a powerful force. And a name that is easily decoded and tucked away in the phone book will most certainly fail to generate friction in the mind. If we are to be believed as an agent of extraordinary change —
that change must begin with our name.

Hello sir and welcome to THE JOCKEY CLUB, may I take your coat?
From Rio de Janeiro, to Devonshire, the Hamptons and all the other privileged places of the world, the idea of a jockey club conjures visions of success, entitlement, Corinthian leather, cigars and mustachio’d sportsmanship. A place of mystery, within whose walls, the secrets of the world are discussed amongst international businessmen dressed smartly in yachting casual. And as for the colorful pilot who guides the mighty beast, the role of the jockey is pleasingly relevant: small and agile, he is a specialist in employing all available means to achieve victory.
